In the closing Class 3A long jump, favorite Dash Sirmon, of Walla Walla, edges Mead's Justin Sands and Yelm's Kyler Ronquillo for the state title at Mount Tahoma
TACOMA - Even under a steady drizzle, athletes soared to season-best heights in track and field at the WIAA Star Track meet Thursday at Mount Tahoma Stadium.
Dash Sirmon, the multi-event standout from Walla Walla High School, won the Class 3A long jump at 23-plus feet (23-03/4). He came in with the state's top overall mark (24-01/2).
Mead's Justin Sands was the event runner-up (22-61/4), followed by Yelm's Kyler Ronquillo in third (22-51/2).
