Photos: Olympia edges Puyallup on tag at home to win program-first WIAA Class 4A state championship
PASCO, Wash. — Olympia won its first state baseball championship in the school's 115 year history on a memorable final play Saturday.
The top-seeded Bears beat Puyallup 7-6 in a win sealed by a tag on the tying run at home with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. With runners on second and third, a line drive to right field drove in the runner on third.
The hit was gathered by Taber Fast, a left-handed pitcher committed to Texas Tech, who launched a throw home to catcher Lane Fuller for the tag at home to seal the win in a back-and-forth, drama-laced game among two of the state's top programs.
