Former Los Angeles Angels reliever Gerardo Reyes has signed a minor-league contract with AL West rival Oakland Athletics, per the MLB.com transaction log.

He will likely be invited to join the team in big league camp and could become an option to be a part of their bullpen next season.

Reyes spent the last two seasons with the Angels organization, appearing in 10 total games for the team. In 2022, he pitched in two games, posting an ERA of 4.50 over two innings of work.

This past season, Reyes appeared in eight games, posting an ERA of 7.45 in 9.2 innings of work. He spent most of his time in Triple-A for the Angels, providing them with a serviceable reliever.

His 2022 season in the minors was much better than 2023, posting an ERA of 3.74 over 46 games. Compare those numbers to 2023, where he posted an ERA of 5.58 over 36 games played.

Reyes spent some time with the San Diego Padres before joining the Angels organization. He owns a career ERA of 7.41, striking out 27 percent of his opponents.

For him to make the big league roster with Oakland next season, he will need to show better control in allowing both walks and home runs. They have both been a problem for Reyes throughout his career.

Reyes is 30 years old, so there is still time for him to put things together to become a decent option in the big leagues. He will likely have a good opportunity while with the  Athletics.
