Angels Injury News: Rookie Nolan Schanuel Expected Back in Lineup Soon

Schanuel sat out Saturday and Sunday's games.

Angels rookie first basemen Nolan Schanuel has missed the last two games due to right shoulder tightness that he first felt during Friday night's losing effort against the Cleveland Guardians.

Schanuel was first called up in mid-August after first basemen CJ Cron injured his back. The 21-year-old became the first player from the 2023 MLB draft to play a big-league game. Schanuel is batting .270 with 2 RBIs so far in his brief MLB career.

Veteran Mike Moustakas replaced the rookie on Saturday and Sunday. Angels manager Phil Nevin said that Schanuel was day-to-day on Saturday.

“We don’t think it’s anything serious,” Nevin said. “In a day or two, he’ll be back out there. Give him a day.”

Schanuel could be expected to play as soon as Monday, as Nevin seemed to think if Schanuel missed Sunday's game, that would be plenty of rest for the young player.

The Angels will travel to play the Seattle Mariners for the first of a three-game series Monday night at 6:40 p.m. PDT.

Reid Detmers, who holds a 4.82 ERA and a 3-10 record as a starter, is scheduled to take the mound for the Halos.
