Angels News: Arte Moreno Not Planning on Selling Team
After another disappointing season comes to a merciful end, many in the Angels organization are preparing for massive changes in the offseason.
One change that will not happen is in the ownership group as current stalwart at the position Arte Moreno is refusing to hand the team off to another individual much to the dismay of many fans, according to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times.
Owner Arte Moreno put the team up for sale last summer and then decided not to sell. Three people who have spoken with Moreno told me they have heard no indication Moreno plans to put the team back on the market this fall. Angels president John Carpino declined to discuss that.
It's a year where just about everything that could have gone wrong in Anaheim has leaned that way both on and off the field.
Stars in the lineup have been injured as absences from Anthony Rendon and Mike Trout have equally hindered the team's ability to win games.
Though Shohei Ohtani tried to keep the team above water, the Angels simply didn't respond to the efforts of the best player in baseball and didn't meet those challenges before he too succumbed to injury.
Even with the franchise buying at the deadline in an unprecedented move going over the luxury tax in the Moreno era, that one month of attempting to compete with multiple players on the mend didn't pan out.
Wanting to save a quick buck, the additions at the deadline that included Lucas Giolito and Dominic Leone were placed on waivers in efforts to get under the luxury tax as just one month above the figure was too much for Moreno's wallet.
Headed toward their ninth consecutive season without playoff baseball, Moreno's thoughts that everything is fine at the Big A simply aren't aligned with reality anymore.
Though we all wish he'd look in the mirror for the true issues on the team, fans, players and front office personnel have all but resigned that such a conclusion is impossible to draw out of Moreno at this point.
