When Ben Joyce made his debut this past week, people form all around baseball were talking about how impressive it is for the rookie to consistently touch triple digits.

With today's technology there are many different ways for pitchers to increase their velocity. For Joyce, however, he was able to start throwing fire through an unconventional method.

"When I went to junior college I hit 100 for the first time my sophomore year there. I ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches there which allowed me to gain weight and velocity," said Joyce.

Joyce revealed his secret on MLB Network Radio's show "Loud Outs".

In his interview, the Angels 2022 third round draft pick also said that he was unable to throw 90 MPH until his senior year of high school.

The righty became a social media sensation during the 2022 college baseball season when he was concisely hitting triple digits and getting all the way up to 105 MPH.

On May 2, 2022 against the Auburn Tigers, Joyce set the college baseball record for the fastest pitch ever recorded at 105.5 MPH.

In his debut against the White Sox on May 29, Joyce shoed his velocity at the major league level by striking out Gavin Sheets on a 102 MPH elevated fastball.

Through his first three appearances in the big leagues, Joyce has thrown three innings, struck out 5, but has an ERA of 6.00.

Joyce is the second player from the Angels 2022 draft class to make his debut in 2023. Shortstop Zach Neto made his debut earlier in the year and is also making a big impact for the Halos.
