The Los Angeles Angels have shown promise in the first two months of the season, experiencing both ups and downs but managing to maintain a winning record. As summer approaches, they will aim to add more victories to their tally. The Angels' success can be attributed to the depth they acquired during the offseason, addressing many of their issues. However, they have struggled to fix their pitching concerns, with the exception of superstar Shohei Ohtani, who has been a standout in the starting rotation. This lack of consistent starting pitching options has become a growing concern for the team.

According to MLB expert Jim Bowden, the Halos rank in the middle of the pack in team ERA. Not the exact recipe for a postseason-contending squad, so to fix the issue, Bowden suggested that the Angels should pursue a starting pitcher before the trade deadline.

Early trade deadline take: They need to acquire another top-of-the-rotation type and more pitching depth.

While the Angels acquired left-hander Tyler Anderson from their crosstown rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to provide some support for Ohtani, Anderson has not performed at the level he did when he was an All-Star in 2022.

There are several potential targets the Angels could pursue in the trade market, such as Zach Greinke, Sonny Gray, or Corbin Burnes, if they become available. However, regardless of the specific player, the Angels will need to secure another top-tier starter if they want to have a legitimate chance of making the postseason and going beyond. It's still too early to tell who will be on the market, but the Halos front office must be on top of that.

To bolster their postseason chances, it's vital that they pursue a frontline starting pitcher before the trade deadline.
