Angels News: Former MLB Outfielder Explains Why A Shohei Ohtani-Mets Trade Makes Sense

Going against the grain!

It seems like the MLB world has all but accepted that a Shohei Ohtani trade will NOT be happening in the next few months. The Los Angeles Angels seemingly were able to generate 25 runs in a single game with Shohei Ohtani only garnering a single hit... talk about actually surrounding him with depth in 2023.

Now the Halos obviously are not contenders or even top two in their division right now. But they remain in the wild card race and they're having fun this year. Even when a number of their key infield contributors in Zach Neto, Gio Urshela and Anthony Rendon all went down with injury, LA's front office immediately parted ways with young talent to land veterans in their place.

They are fully bought in on winning games this season and are not interested in a reset by trading their most prized possession. However, MLB Network's Bo Porter believes that GM Perry Minasian should not get caught up in the moment and needs to consider taking a call from the New York Mets for a blockbuster trade.

"Mets are going to be all in," said Porter. "Now you're gonna put Ohtani, Max Scherzer, Verlander all on the same team, they are all in, they're going for it. They have to take Rendon off of my books. I'm going to send Hunter Renfroe so that the Mets get some offense and then we're going to put a reliever in there as well. As the Angels, I'm getting back almost major league-ready prospects and four top prospects."

LA seems to have already made up their minds in terms of making Ohtani available in the next months so unless a disaster happens in Anaheim, this will not take place.

However, Porter urges the Halos to think about it from a payroll perspective.

"Their payroll right now is about $230 (million). They make this deal, it's roughly $105 (million)."

Let's see how this plays out!
