Angels News: Luis Rengifo Wins American League Award After Dominant Week

A bright spot for an otherwise dark season for Anaheim.

After a dominating performance over his recent string of games, one Angel was given a prestigious award for swinging one of the hottest bats in baseball.

In road series' against both the Phillies and Athletics, Halos infielder Luis Rengifo simply raked and the league honored him with the AL Player of the Week award for his efforts.

Notching two home runs off of Michael Lorenzon, Rengifo smacked his 13th and 14th dingers on the year into the right field seats of Philly on the 29th of August in a game the Halos would unfortunately lose 12-7.

Undeterred by his team's performance, the Venezuelan international continued his torrid stretch by raising his average to .260 from .244 in just a few games while on the hot streak.

It's been an encouraging sign for Rengifo who continues to compete no matter where his team may be in the standings.

Notching his third home run of the road trip against Oakland, Rengifo sure tried to do his part to give the Halos one for the win column from their recent run of games.

Such an outcome has unfortunately been hard to come by recently no matter how good individual performances have been for the Angels.

Even with his contributions, the team has just one win in their last nine tries, including a series sweep at the hands of the Athletics who have been one of the worst teams in the league by a wide margin in 2023.

In what could simply be a countdown of Shohei Ohtani's final games in a Halos uniform, 2023 has been a season to forget for the roster, front office and organization as a whole.

Even as Rengifo's individual accomplishments have shone through with the award, it's little solace for the team at large staring at their ninth consecutive losing season.
