Angels News: Mickey Moniak Could Still Return This Season

Moniak has a chance to see the field again before the season's end.

The Angels' hopes of a playoff run are long gone as the Halos only have three more games before a long offseason awaits.

Because of the disappointment that the second half of the season saw, it's important to celebrate the small victories. One could be coming up before the season is over.

Angels outfielder Mickey Moniak, who excelled in his first full season in Anaheim, is making progress after being knocked out for multiple weeks with a back injury.

Moniak last played Sep. 5 against the Baltimore Orioles, but left the game early due to back soreness. This season, his fourth in Major League Baseball, was by far his best. Moniak is hitting .280/.307/.490 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. He's also played 83 games, more than any other season combined.

According to Angels manager Phil Nevin, Moniak went through a full workout recently and could make an appearance at some point in the Angels' final three games of the season.

"It's kinda trending toward that," Nevin said in terms of him potentially returning. "Whether we make that move or not with three games left in the season, we'll see. It's certainly getting to the point where he's close to playing."

The Angels and Moniak will enter a pre-arbitration period before next season, meaning the specifics of his upcoming contract are unknown at this time.
