Angels News: Mike Trout Opens Up About Playing in First Game of New Year

The Halos superstar was happy to be back out on the diamond.

Los Angeles Angels baseball is back, somewhat. Spring training is officially underway for the Halos, and on Saturday, we got our first glimpse of the team.

The Angels took on their freeway rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in their first game, which resulted in a tie. However, spring training is not about the wins or losses; it's about getting your feet back under you. One Halos player who needs that desperately is their superstar Mike Trout

We got our first look at Trout in the new year, and he told Erica Weston of Bally Sports West that he was happy to be back out on the diamond.

"It's good to get back in there. Obviously a little late, first game back, but it'll come."

Trout only had two ABs on Saturday and recorded zero hits and zero walks.

The 32-year-old superstar missed half of the 2023 season after a fracture to his left hamate bone. He was initially scheduled just to come back in August, but he was dealing with lingering pain. Ultimately, the Halos shut him down for the rest of the season.

Although Trout is among the best players of this generation, injuries have plagued him in the past handful of seasons. In the past three seasons, he's played in 237 games out of a possible 486 games.

That's been the moral of the story for the Halo and Trout in recent years. The hope is for that to change in a pivotal 2024 season. All eyes will be on if the Halos can stay healthy, and it all starts and ends with Trout.

Luckily, he feels healthy this spring training, and it translates into the regular season.
