Angels News: Mike Trout & Shohei Ohtani Lead LA to Much-Needed Monday Win

They showed up when they were needed most.

Your Los Angeles Angels entered their Monday night outing against the Chicago White Sox with a lot on their minds. It undoubtedly was the beginning of a new week as the Halos had lost four out of their five games and dropped two straight series to the Chicago White Sox.

Therefore, they needed everything to go their way if they wanted to get back on the right track with the trade deadline getting closer and closer and the AL West not getting any easier. Reid Detmers took the mound for seven innings and he was able to allow just one run in that span.

Team manager Phil Nevin loved what he saw from him and wants him to continue building off of the positive momentum.

“I think (Detmers) watches the guy who pitches after him (Ohtani) and he’s understanding manipulating the ball and throwing strikes and getting ahead of hitters and using your defense,” said Nevin. “I know he had 10 punchouts today. He’s able to get strikeouts. But he’s also able to get a lot of soft contact with changing speeds and changing shapes on his pitches."

The final score was 2-1 in the Angels' favor and even though it was not the most exciting game, maybe LA needed a comfy win to help them get back to top form. They did indeed use plenty of their offensive fuel in Saturday's 24-run win.

However, one of their two runs was a homer from none other than Shohei Ohtani and he was able to record his 26th bomb of the year. It was then his superstar teammate Mike Trout that slowly made his way around the bases in the ninth inning and wound up winning the baseball match thanks to a wild pitch that got them their second and final run.
