Even though the Los Angeles Angels did not start off their freeway series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the right foot, you have to be pleased with what you saw from Reid Detmers. The 23-year-old LHP was able to lower his ERA down to 4.02 thanks to a seven inning performance on Wednesday where he allowed just two hits with zero runs struck out eight of the Dodgers batters.

However, Clayton Kershaw started against the Halos as well and he came ready. He is well-aware that Shohei Ohtani is the biggest name in baseball right now for a multitude of reasons but even when he stepped up to the plate against him, business was taken care of. Kershaw also stayed on for seven innings and the Angels scored zero runs while only connecting on five hits.

The offense just did not come through for the Halos down the stretch and when you face off against a team like the Dodgers, no matter how much they've struggled lately, any runs they garner can win them the game. Ohtani will be taking the mound today and LA will certainly need to improve at the plate to try and cash home a win.

But back to the pitching battle, Kershaw has been able to outlast a number of the game's best aces during his 15 seasons in the MLB and to think he's still producing like this at 35-years-old is wild.

He also showed tons of love to Detmers following their Tuesday outing.

"It was fun. Detmers threw the ball really well. He's got good stuff and really he pitched better than I did -- he didn't give up many hard hit balls at all tonight. He pitched really well."

At the end of the day, this is what baseball is all about. The best athletes should be able to compete and maintain respect afterwards!
