Angels News: Shohei Ohtani is Done for the Year with Injury

An oblique injury ends Shohei's incredible season.

Shohei Ohtani's 2023 season is done. The Angels announced that the DH was being placed on the 10-day injured list with continued oblique issues. He had missed the previous 11 games for the Halos.

Shocking headlines emerged late on Friday night as reports saying Ohtani's locker had been cleaned out. Little information was available at the time.

The organization says that GM Perry Minasian will further address the situation this afternoon at Angel Stadium.

Ohtani hit .304 with 44 home runs and 95 RBI in 135 games this season. The 29-year-old is set to become a free agent upon the conclusion of the World Series in November.

The Angels hope to re-sign the two-way superstar but there appears to be a sense of friction between the player and the team over another season without a playoff berth.

One factor in the team's struggles involved Ohtani and his availability this season. His 2023 campaign as a pitcher ended in August after he suffered an elbow injury.

He'll likely be undergoing surgery sometime in the coming weeks.
