Angels Reportedly Considering Deal For Free Agent Postseason Star

Los Angeles could use another ace for the rotation.

The Los Angeles Angels could use another frontline starter for the rotation.

In losing superstar Shohei Ohtani this offseason, the Angels not only lost one of their best hitters but also their best hurler. Los Angeles is looking for ways to fill the hole left by Ohtani and has been linked to multiple players.

One intriguing pitcher who has been floated as a possible option for Los Angeles is former Texas Rangers postseason star Jordan Montgomery, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"The Angels have been mulling whether to make a run at big-time free agents (Blake Snell), (Jordan Montgomery), or Cody Bellinger," Heyman said. "But they are also looking at depth pieces and are said to be considering former (New York Met) Amed Rosario, Kiké Hernandez, and a solid back-end starter like (Michael Lorenzen), an Orange County and Cal-State Fullerton product who may like the idea of going home."

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

Montgomery still is looking for a new home and is coming off arguably the best season of his career so far. The big lefty had a 3.20 ERA and 166-to-48 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 188 2/3 innings pitched with the St. Louis Cardinals and Rangers.

He's sure to get a massive contract soon, but likely will be cheaper than someone like Blake Snell. Montgomery has logged an ERA under 4.00 in each of the last three seasons while pitching at least 157 innings in each campaign.

If Los Angeles is looking to add another top hurler, it should look into signing Montgomery before someone else does.
