Angels Rumors: Halos Trail Multiple Teams as Favorites to Sign Shohei Ohtani, According to Insider

This will be a VERY important winter in Anaheim.

Given the recent news of yet another elbow injury with fear of surgery on the way, what was set to be a market-shattering contract now isn't exactly certain for baseball's biggest show.

Current Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani's upcoming contract has been discussed ad nauseum for the past three seasons, but his current employer may not be favored to retain his services. MLB insider Jon Heyman thinks they have the third-best odds to sign Ohtani this offseason, trailing two more SoCal teams in the Dodgers and Padres.

3. Angels

Some rivals are assuming the Angels have no chance since they haven’t made the playoffs while paying Ohtani a fraction his worth. But word is he likes it there — he lives in Newport Beach — and also appreciates their willingness to accommodate his two-way stardom from the start.

Though his massive workload has finally shown its signs of wear and tear on his body, Ohtani's second major elbow injury in his career still may not prevent him from getting a massive pay day.

Leading the league in home runs and winning 10 games with an ERA just over 3, Ohtani's two way superstardom has continued to amaze the baseball world with each and every game.

Skeptics wonder if Ohtani will ever be the same pitcher with the loads he's needed to carry for the Angels on both sides of the ball finally showing signs of mortality on the unicorn's body.

Given Arte Moreno's disastrous tenure as owner, Mike Trout's consistent injuries, Anthony Rendon's albatross contract for close to no effort on and off the field and a bevy of other issues, the Big A have set quite the example of how not to run a franchise.

With all the resources they've been granted, it's quite amazing that the team has failed to make the playoffs a single time in the Ohtani-Trout era of the team, but such might not be an issue anymore should the Japanese international finally want out.
