Former Angels Top Prospect DFA'd By AL East Team

Former Angels minor leaguer has been designated for assignment by this AL East team.

Former Los Angeles Angels infielder Liván Soto has been canned by the elite AL East team, the Baltimore Orioles. After only a week with the Orioles, Soto is back on the open market.

Soto was claimed off waivers by the Orioles. However, the organization gave up on him before their first spring training game.

The 23-year-old started his career with the Atlanta Braves, signing as an international free agent. However, in 2017, Soto was one of nine amateur players who was granted free agency after the MLB voided these players' contracts after the league announced the Braves had violated international signing rules from 2015 to 2017.

Soto's tenure with the Angels began a couple of weeks after being granted free agency. He signed a minor league deal and made his MLB debut in September 2022.

He finished that season slashing .400/.414/.582 with a .996 OPS. Soto was on fire, but it quickly died down. In four games and nine at-bats in 2023, he only collected two hits and a .222 batting average. He played out the rest of the season with the Halos Triple-A affiliate.

The Valenzuela native was the 14th-ranked prospect for the Halos in 2021. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out for Soto in the league. We wish him the best in his next journey.
