MLB Insider Thinks AL West Foe Could Poach Angels Free Agent Infielder This Offseason

Should the Halos try to retain him?

The Los Angeles Angels have some decisions to make regarding multiple players that are hitting free agency. The team wants to improve the overall roster, so it remains to be seen who they will realistically bring back.

One player that the team isn't expected to bring back is infielder Gio Urshela. He was limited to just 62 games this past season due to injury and will likely head to a new team.

MLB insider Mark Feinsand has listed Urshela as a good option for the division rival Oakland Athletics this offseason.

"The Athletics aren’t expected to spend much in free agency this offseason, but they will still be looking for a player or two to help them next year. Urshela played only 62 games in 2023 and will likely have to settle for a one-year deal; if he plays well, he could become a trade chip next summer."

Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com

Oakland normally isn't a team that gets very involved with free agency, but they could use some pieces for their roster next season. Urshela could use a change of scenery, and he would likely get more at-bats with the A's.

His season ended back in June after going on the injured list due to a pelvis fracture. He didn't need surgery, but his year was over so he could recover fully.

In the limited time that he played with the Angels this season, Ursehla hit .299 with two home runs and 24 runs batted in. He was serviceable before the injury and could provide a team like Oakland with a quality infielder for the 2024 season.
