No matter if the Angels are down 0-11 or up 11-0, one thing can always be guaranteed and that is that Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani will always be the guys taking care of business.

Thursday night was pretty hard on Ohtani as he easily had his worst pitching performance of the season on the mound as he allowed five runs late along with two homers. However, it was a shocker for a reason as he has consistently been their best option there.

Then you take a look at Trout who is up to his usual activities at the plate with a current slash line of .305/.405/.558 and already has five home runs on the year. This has easily been one of the best duos in baseball for some time now and 2023 is proving no different.

Therefore, it really should be no surprise that Flippin Bats podcast host Ben Verlander has placed both of these superstars on his most valuable players of the week list with Ohtani coming in at number one and Trout coming in at number five.

"He's been number two all year but he's finally taken that number one spot and that is Shohei Ohtani," said Verlander. "He's got six homers on the year now, six RBI's, and his impact has been incredible like always."

The Angels saw some struggles early on and are still floating around .500 with a 14-12 record but progress is being made every day.

We always know what we are going to get out of Trout and Ohtani so it's up to the rest of the squad to get their production up.
