The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Saturday the acquisition of relief pitcher Chris Martin from the Chicago Cubs for utility man Zach McKinstry. The swap comes as no surprise for the Cubs who had Martin under control for one more season and are sellers at the trade deadline.

Martin has pitched 31 1/3 innings in relief this season with a 4.31 ERA and 40 strikeouts to only four walks. The righty manages home runs well but has surrendered 38 hits in 34 outings.

McKinstry's versatility bodes well for the Cubs as the 27-year-old can play the outfield, second and third base. The left-handed hitter is under contract through the 2027 season and lacked a starting role on the Dodgers' roster.
