Álvarez Sets Astros Home Run Record in Game Against Tigers

Yordan Álvarez set a record for the franchise Monday night in a game against the Detroit Tigers.

Yordan Álvarez hit his 100th career home run in just his 372nd career game on Monday to become the fastest player in Houston Astros franchise history to blast 100 homers.

The previous record was held by Lance Berkman, who ripped his 100th career home run in his 452nd game.

Álvarez is the 19th player in franchise history to reach the 100-homer mark.

Álvarez’s 100th home run came against Detroit Tigers relief pitcher José Cisnero. It landed 435 feet from home plate and tied the game at 4.

Former Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard still holds the Major League record as he hit his 100th career homer on June 27, 2007 in just his 325th career game.

Next up is New York Mets standout Pete Alonso, who crushed his 100thshot on Sept. 7, 2021.

The next two are Gary Sanchez at 355, Aaron Judge at 371 and now Álvarez at 372.

This is just the first of many records likely to be set by Álvarez, a stellar power hitter against both right-handers and left-handers.

Álvarez’s three-run homer off Jose Alvarado in Game 6 of the World Series helped seal the Astros’ second World Series title since 2017.

Álvarez has now carried that momentum into this season.
