Houston Astros See Massive Drop in Latest World Series Odds

Do the Houston Astros have what it takes to repeat as World Series champions?

The odds of the Houston Astros repeating as World Series Champions appear to be more difficult than when the season first began, with three teams ahead of the reigning champs according to the latest World Series odds at Fox.

The Atlanta Braves are currently leading the league at +330, followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers at +550, Tampa Bay Rays at +600, Houston Astros at +800 and Texas Rangers at +1300 to round out the top five.

Major League teams sitting at six through 10 include the Toronto Blue Jays (+1700), New York Yankees (+1800), Philadelphia Phillies (+2000), Baltimore Orioles (+2200) and Minnesota Twins (+2500).

The Astros (53-43) are currently in a tight race against the Texas Rangers (58-39) in the American League West, sitting 4.5 games behind their intrastate rivals.

Houston general manager Dana Brown has expressed that the Astros will indeed be pushing hard to make a splash in the trade market prior to the deadline -- whether that be a starting pitcher, bullpen help or a power hitter.

Regardless of how that transpires, the odds continue to stack up against the Astros.

Hopefully, skipper Dusty Baker and the Houston brass can turn things around in a Major League hunt for October.

The Astros definitely have a deep and talented team, as they have proven by staying in the fight for the AL West despite the numerous setbacks and injuries: especially to the team's starting pitching staff.

Only one question remains: can this team make the push needed to overtake the Rangers and claim another division crown?

Houston needs to begin climbing that ladder sooner rather than later.
