Houston Astros Top Prospects Shining After Strong Week

With a new week rolling around, it's time to once again take a closer look at how the Houston Astros top-30 prospects are faring in the farm system.

We'll begin with the prospects in Triple-A, and we'll take an in-depth look at the players from Sugar Land all the way down to the Single-A team in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Please note: player slash lines do not include games on Sunday, May 21.

Triple-A (Sugar Land Space Cowboys)

The Space Cowboys own a 18-26 record in 2023 and host Salt Lake (20-25) on Tuesday, May 23.

C Korey Lee (No. 5 prospect): slashing .302/.346/.436 this season with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, 22 RBI and seven stolen bases.

OF/2B Pedro Leon (No. 6 prospect): slashing .248/.318/.404 this season with eight doubles, one triple, four home runs, 20 RBI and five stolen bases.

OF Justin Dirden (No. 7 prospect): slashing .266/.340/.489 this season with seven doubles, three triples, six home runs, 23 RBI and three stolen bases.

RHP Misael Tamarez (No. 11 prospect): 0-0 record this season with a 5.27 ERA (13.2 innings pitched), 10 strikeouts, 20 walks and a 2.12 WHIP.

3B/OF Joe Perez (No. 14 prospect): slashing .234/.289/.369 this season with eight doubles, one triple, three home runs, 21 RBI and two stolen bases.

RHP Forrest Whitley (No. 19 prospect): 1-2 record this season with a 5.79 ERA (28.0 innings pitched), 29 strikeouts, 14 walks and a 1.25 WHIP.

RHP Shawn Dubin (No. 23 prospect): 0-1 record this season with a 6.27 ERA (18.2 innings pitched), 18 strikeouts, 12 walks and a 1.45 WHIP.

Double-A (Corpus Christi Hooks)

The Hooks own a 16-22 record in 2023 and host Midland (22-17) on Tuesday, May 23.

OF Drew Gilbert (No. 1 prospect): slashing .306/.419/.389 this season with three doubles, six RBI and one stolen base (through 11 games since being called up from High-A).

OF Colin Barber (No. 3 prospect): slashing .284/.408/.494 this season with six doubles, one triple, three home runs, 14 RBI and one stolen base.

LHP Colton Gordon (No. 8 prospect): 2-3 record this season with a 4.73 ERA (32.1 innings pitched), 40 strikeouts, 14 walks and a 1.33 WHIP.

RHP Spencer Arrighetti (No. 9 prospect): 3-2 record this season with a 5.40 ERA (31.2 innings pitched), 32 strikeouts, 13 walks and a 1.33 WHIP.

INF Will Wagner (No. 12 prospect): slashing .290/.384/.484 this season with six doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI.

RHP Jaime Melendez (No. 13 prospect): 2-0 record this season with a 5.59 ERA (9.2 innings pitched), eight strikeouts, seven walks and a 1.55 WHIP.

OF/1B/2B Joey Loperfido (No. 16 prospect): slashing .305/.442/.561 this season with six doubles, five home runs, 21 RBI and eight stolen bases (through 24 games since being called up from High-A).

OF Kenedy Corona (No. 18 prospect): slashing .233/.273/.417 this season with five doubles, one triple, four home runs, 13 RBI and eight stolen bases (through 27 games since being called up from High-A).

OF Quincy Hamilton (No. 22 prospect): slashing .254/.366/.390 this season with 10 doubles, two home runs, 17 RBI and four stolen bases.

OF Zach Daniels (No. 30 prospect): slashing .385/.385/.538 this season with two doubles, one RBI and one stolen base (has only played in four games this year).

High-A (Asheville Tourists)

The Tourists own a 18-19 record in 2023 and play at Hickory (13-24) on Tuesday, May 23.

OF Jacob Melton (No. 2 prospect): slashing .240/.368/.471 this season with three doubles, seven home runs, 16 RBI and 15 stolen bases.

OF Ryan Clifford (No. 4 prospect): slashing .263/.326/.553 this season with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and one stolen base (through 11 games since being called up from Single-A).

RHP Miguel Ullola (No. 10 prospect): 0-2 record this season with a 7.50 ERA (24.0 innings pitched), 25 strikeouts, 21 walks and a 1.88 WHIP.

OF Logan Cerny (No. 20 prospect): slashing .188/.255/.328 this season with three doubles, five home runs, 14 RBI and eight stolen bases.

RHP Edinson Batista (No. 24 prospect): 1-2 record this season with a 6.85 ERA (23.2 innings pitched), 25 strikeouts, nine walks and a 1.44 WHIP.

RHP Michael Knorr (No. 25 prospect): 0-2 record this season with a 4.63 ERA (11.2 innings pitched), 20 strikeouts, seven walks and a 1.54 WHIP (through three games since being called up from Single-A).

C/1B Miguel Palma (No. 28 prospect): slashing .279/.339/.442 this season with eight doubles, three home runs, 17 RBI and three stolen bases.

Single-A (Fayetteville Woodpeckers)

The Woodpeckers own a 16-22 record in 2023 and host Myrtle Beach (19-19) on Tuesday, May 23.

RHP Andrew Taylor (No. 15 prospect): 2-2 record this season with a 3.62 ERA (27.1 innings pitched), 38 strikeouts, 11 walks and a 1.43 WHIP.

RHP Jose Fleury (No. 27 prospect): 0-2 record this season with a 3.99 ERA (29.1 innings pitched), 42 strikeouts, 16 walks and a 1.16 WHIP.

3B/2B Zach Dezenzo (No. 29 prospect): slashing .404/.472/.606 this season with 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 16 RBI and six stolen bases.

All four of the Astros farm teams have a day off on Monday before returning to the diamond on Tuesday, giving Houston's prospects further opportunities to develop as the season rolls on.
