Houston Astros fans need not worry, Yordan Álvarez looks ready to return sooner rather than later.

Right hand inflammation placed the Astros' slugger and American League OPS leader on the 10-day IL July 10. But Dusty Baker appeared on Houston radio SportsTalk 790 to clear the air of any pessimism.

Álvarez looks likely to make only a minimum IL stint, lending cadence to the thought that this trip is only a precautionary measure. Unfortunately, Álvarez will still miss the chance to represent Houston at the All-Star Game, but four Astros representatives will still be in Los Angeles. Major League Baseball announced Tuesday Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez will replace Álvarez on the American League roster.

The Astros first series following the All-Star break begins June 19 against the AL-leading New York Yankees. The earliest Álvarez could be activated is for game two of that most pivotal series on July 20.

The Astros trail the Yankees by four games for the AL's top seed, but both already look to be in good position to acquire a bye past the Wild Card round. But if the ALCS does come down to the top two clubs in the league, that top seed—which determines home field advantage in a playoff series—could look very important.

Álvarez is slashing .259/.375/.704 over his last week of play, so his presence will be vital in making sure the Astros take the series in Houston.
