Insider Reveals Alex Bregman's Price Tag For Houston Astros

Alex Bregman could be due for a big extension with the Houston Astros.

The Houston Astros have tough decisions to make after extending Jose Altuve.

Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, and Framber Valdez are all due for massive contracts in the next two offseasons.

It wouldn't be surprising to see one of them move on and join a new team. Given his age and potential price tag, Bregman could be the odd man out.

Valdez is older than him, but pitching is a necessity to win in this league and the 30-year-old left-hander has been one of the games best throughout the last two seasons.

Hope remains that the Astros extend all of them, although that's highly unlikely. They've proven that they have trust in their development system with Jeremy Pena and others in the past, so this might not be much different.

Dana Brown did say that he's going to offer Bregman an extension, but no numbers were mentioned.

The issue, however, is Bregman could command $200-plus million. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Bregman's contract could be similar to Xander Bogaerts'.

"It will be harder for the Astros to lock up Alex Bregman, who’s seeking a longer deal, probably along the lines of Xander Bogaerts’ deal."

Bogaerts signed an 11-year, $280 million deal with the San Diego Padres

He signed his deal at 30, presumably when Bregman will sign his as he turns 30 in March.

Brown and Jim Crane have a tough decision to make.

On one hand, losing Bregman moves another piece of the dynasty out of the organization. On the other, $200-plus million might be better spent elsewhere to keep their championship window open.
