The Houston Astros feature a bullpen without a left-hander.

But they could have one very soon.

Blake Taylor was activated from the injured list Tuesday from a left elbow strain and was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Taylor made four scoreless appearances while on his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A in a span of 3 1/3 innings.

Taylor appeared in 19 games for the Astros last year, posting a 3.94 ERA. But he struggled throughout with elbow soreness.

If Taylor pitches well for Sugar Land, he could be recalled very soon. And the Astros would reap the benefits.

They’re not going to last the entire season without an effective left-hander.

Before the season, Taylor agreed to an $830,000 salary. That could turn out to be one of the biggest bargains in all of Major League Baseball.

Taylor pitched 16 innings for the Astros in 2022 and struck out 19.

Taylor would be ideal in a middle relief role in one of the strongest bullpens in baseball. Barring an injury setback, look for Taylor to join the Astros at some point.
