Yainer Diaz, the Houston Astros' no. 14-ranked prospect, is set to represent the club at Major Baseball's Futures Game in Los Angeles on July 16.

The Futures Game is an annual exhibition game with teams comprised of prospects from the American League and National League. The game is in conjunction with the MLB All-Star Game.

Diaz, a catcher and first baseman, was acquired by the Astros along with reliever Phil Maton from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for Myles Straw last July.

The 23-year-old was signed by Cleveland in Dec. 2016 out of the Dominican Republic, and upon being traded in 2021, was batting .314 at Low-A Lynchburg.

He then continued this torrid pace with the Astros, slashing .396 with 11 home runs and 33 RBI in 25 games with High-A Asheville.

Diaz's performance earned him a promotion to Double-A Corpus Christi in 2022, where he hit .316 with a .871 OPS, nine homers, and 48 RBI. He then moved up to Triple-A Sugar Land, where he's posted a .873 OPS, four home runs, and 13 RBI across 12 games thus far.
