A Blue Jays front office executive may soon be leaving for a rival.

The Red Sox are considering former Astros GM and current Blue Jays VP Baseball Strategy James Click for their General Manager opening, Jon Heyman reports. Click joined Toronto late last offseason after leading Houston to a World Series title.

Click joined Toronto's 'Baseball Operations leadership team' after signing on with the Jays in February. At the time of his hiring, the Jays said he would be working closely with GM Ross Atkins and department heads on "strategic planning, decision making, and evaluation."

Prior to joining the Jays, he was a member of the Rays front office for nearly 15 years before taking over at the top of Houston's leadership team in 2020. He was at the helm of the Astros for the club's 2022 World Series title. Click left the Astros after the club offered him a one-year contract extension following the championship season.

The Red Sox have been looking for a new general manager after parting ways with Chaim Bloom near the end of the 2023 regular season. Bloom led Boston for nearly four full seasons, making it to the ALCS in 2021. However, the Red Sox finished last in the AL East the past two seasons, winning 78 games in both 2022 and 2023.
