Rome Braves, High-A affiliate of the Braves, announce new identity as the Emperors

The High-A baseball team, located in Rome GA, make both a Rome connection and a penguin connection with their new name and branding

The Rome Braves, High-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, have announced their new identity and brand: The Rome Emperors.

The Emperors rebrand from "Braves" are the latest team in a series of minor league rebrands that have seen the teams endeavor to establish identities separate from their major league parent organizations.

Sometimes it's done to alleviate confusion - this was a stated rationale for the Gwinnett Braves rebranding as the Gwinnett Stripers prior to the 2018 season.

It's also done to establish separate identities for affiliates and to establish closer ties with the area in which the teams play, which is one of the stated reasons Rome gave when announcing their intentions to change their name late in the 2023 season.

The Emperors released style guides when the change was announced in a live event on Thursday night, with the mascot of choice being a penguin - very few professional teams have penguin mascots, and it's a great way to use the "Emperors" moniker in a family-friendly way.

Merchandise for the new Rome Emperors identity is available now on their website and in the clubhouse store.
