Alex Anthopolous Discusses Losing Ron Washington and Eric Young From Coaching Staff
Atlanta Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopolous appeared on the Baseball Tonight Podcast with Buster Olney to talk about some of the moves that occurred during the Braves offseason. The first thing that Buster brought up was the loss of Ron Washington and Eric Young as the Braves' first and third base coaches.
Losing those two key pieces of the coaching staff is something that has the potential to affect the mood of your clubhouse. Here is what AA had to say about the departure of Wash and E.Y. as they both went to the Los Angeles Angels:
"Yeah, I think it's really big and I didn't understand it or appreciate it early in my career and that is reflected in the fact that I didn't play. I didn't spend time in clubhouses. I had to learn on the fly as I have gotten opportunities. Look, every Major and Minor League coach has talent and ability. You wouldn't get to this level if you didn't have a lot of content.
The separator for the great ones at the big league level is the ability to connect. With both of those guys, Ron Washington and Eric Young, connect as well as anybody I have ever been around in the game. The energy they bring day in and day out, you need it. Obviously, they are going to be a huge loss but I am thrilled for them at the same time." - AA
Of course, everyone in Braves Country is wishing for the best for Wash and E.Y. in 2024. It will be weird not seeing them out there every game.
