Braves Pitcher May Have Gotten the Most Painful Strikeout of the Year

The Atlanta Braves have a veteran that punished a hitter on a strikeout on Sunday

Striking out, in the grand scheme of things, isn't that embarrassing.

Every single hitter does it, with the average batter doing it over 100 times in a season. But sometimes the way in which you strike out can be emabarassing.

And no one's made an opposing batter strike out in a more embarrassing way than Atlanta Braves veteran Charlie Morton did on Sunday to a member of the Miami Marlins.

Here's the scenario: It's the bottom of the 2nd inning, with the bases empty and one out for the Marlins. Outfielder Jesús Sánchez is up to bat, and quickly gets down 0-2.

After a curveball down in the dirt beings the count to 1-2, Morton unleashed his best pitch, a curveball, with the intent of bringing it inside and low to the lefty Sánchez.

Except, it went REALLY low and inside, hitting Sánchez on the back foot.

But instead of taking first base, Sánchez instead limped to the dugout. Why? Because he swung at it.

Check it out for yourself:

It was Morton's second strikeout of the game; he would go on to record eight strikeouts as Atlanta rallied in the 9th thanks to Marcell Ozuna's two-out, two-strike homer and win 9-7, taking the series.

And depending on how long the swelling and soreness lingers, probably a strikeout that Sánchez won't soon forget.
