Takeaways: Braves finish off sweep against Yankees

The Atlanta Braves finish off the sweep of the New York Yankees, officially putting the Yankees below .500.

The Atlanta Braves beat the New York Yankees 2-0 tonight to finish off the sweep.

The Braves are finished with interleague play for the 2023 season.

Sometimes three hits is enough

The Braves did not need much offense to secure the win.

In the bottom of the second inning, left fielder Eddie Rosario launched a two-run homer to center field and that was all of the scoring. Additionally, the Braves only had three hits to the Yankees' four.

It is not every day that two runs will be enough to get the job done. Tonight, however, two runs was plenty.

Charlie Morton showed up

Charlie Morton got the start for the Braves tonight and the 39-year-old right-hander delivered. Morton tossed six scoreless innings, only allowing four hits, walking one batter and striking out 10.

This is the second-straight win Morton has picked up in as many starts. Before that, he had taken four losses in a row. He appears to have found his footing which is great news for the Braves.

The New York offense must not have been aboard the flight

The Yankees' offense has been almost non-existent in this three-game stretch.

In the first game, they recorded 11 hits but were only able to put three across the plate. The second game was the worst of the series as they only managed one hit. The series finale also saw no runs for the visiting club, but they put together four hits.

New York places 29th in the MLB in batting average with .232, narrowly beating out the Oakland Athletics.

It appears the club's offense did not just miss this flight, but has not been on time for one in quite some time.

What's next?

The Braves are off tomorrow but start a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants at home inside Truist Park on Friday night.
