Is trading for Corbin Burnes an option for Atlanta?

Would the Braves be willing to trade for a year of Corbin Burnes?

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com recently released an article about the latest rumors he was hearing about starting pitchers. The first pitcher he mentioned was Milwaukee Brewers ace, Corbin Burnes.

Burnes has one year left on his contract before becoming a free agent and it is assumed that the Brewers do not want to play any part in that bidding war. Therefore, it would make sense for Milwaukee to try and move Burns before the 2024 season or before the trade deadline is over. Why would they do that? Because if they move him, they would at least be able to get something in return for him.

Although Burnes had a rough start in the Wild Card game, his regular season was solid. Burnes finished the 2023 regular season with a 10-8 record and a 3.39 ERA. He struck out 200 hitters while walking 66 in 193.2 innings. As I mentioned before, the Brewers are going to want a haul in return for their Ace. Burnes will likely be the opening-day starter for the Brew Crew this season so they will want some MLB-ready pitchers.

Atlanta would have to part ways with AJ Smith-Shawver, Bryce Elder, or Hurston Waldrep, and possibly two out of those three. If we DO trade for him, it is only going to be for one year as he becomes a free agent at the end of 2024. Then he and Max Fried both would be free agents and the bidding war would be on for both of them.

Is that a price Atlanta really wants to pay?
