BREAKING: Atlanta Braves trade Marco Gonzales to the Pittsburgh Pirates

Marco Gonzales was not a member of the Atlanta Braves very long.

The Atlanta Braves acquired left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales in a trade from the Seattle Mariners that featured outfielder Jarred Kelenic to kick off the Winter Meetings.

Reports surfaced shortly after that Atlanta would be looking to move Gonzales. It didn't take long for Atlanta to find a suitor. The Braves agreed to trade Gonzales to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Atlanta will send cash to the Pirates and receive a player to be named later according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

There was speculation that Atlanta would drop Gonzales if they did not find a trade partner. They ultimately found one with the Pirates.

The full report from Passan's post on X read, "The Pittsburgh Pirates are acquiring left-handed starter Marco Gonzales in a trade from the Atlanta Braves, sources tell ESPN. The Braves will send cash to the Pirates and receive a player to be named later."

Gonzales previously was dealing with a nerve issue in his forearm, he spent over two months on the injured list before having season-ending surgery in August.

But in the four seasons prior to 2023, Gonzales made 102 starts with a 3.92 ERA, showing the ability to go both deep in games and run higher workloads. He's owed $12.25M in 2024, with a $15M club option for 2025 that contains no buyout.
