Braves Briefing: Max Fried is hoping for better health in 2024
Max Fried was a key part of the Atlanta Braves rotation despite missing some time with an injury last season.
He appeared in just 14 games in 2023 and recorded an 8-1 record. In 2021, he appeared in 28 games, and in 2022, he appeared in 30 games (and was runner-up for the NL Cy Young to Miami's Sandy Alcantara). His 2024 projections have him going 9-4 on the season.
MLB.com put out a list of MLB stars who are hoping for better health in 2024. Fried made the list.
Here's what they said about Fried.
After throwing a career-high 185 1/3 innings and finishing second in the NL Cy Young race in 2022, Fried made three trips to the injured list this past season, the longest covering nearly three months due to a left forearm strain. When healthy, however, he continued to perform at a level commensurate with some of the elite pitchers in baseball, posting a 2.55 ERA and a 4.44 K/BB ratio over 14 starts. Fried has cemented his place among the game’s best arms over the past four years, a span in which he leads all pitchers (min. 400 innings) with a 162 ERA+. He has a lot riding on 2024, with the opportunity to become a free agent next offseason.

How long until pitchers and catchers report?
37 days. Atlanta's expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
