Max Fried is focused on 2024 despite contract talks

Fried is focusing on the things he can control, and respecting the process otherwise

We have talked at length about how Max Fried is in a contract year. This could be the last year that we get to see Fried as a member of the Atlanta Braves. Fried is playing on a one-year, $15M contract and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of 2024. You have heard all kinds of opinions about it,  from MLB analysts and Braves beat writers, but what about Max? What does he think about the whole situation? Well, he was asked about it during a Q&A session at BravesFest.

“It’s out of my control right now,” Fried said. “But the Braves do things a certain way and I know that privacy and doing things behind closed doors is the way things are done. I respect that. I know I love being here and I’m really excited to get started with this group.”

“This is all I really know,” said Fried, who has been part of the Braves organization since the Padres traded him to Atlanta as a Minor League pitcher in 2015. “This organization has been nothing but supportive to me. I know the fans and city have really embraced me. I’ve really enjoyed my time here.” - Fried

If the Braves want to hang onto Fried, they will have to enter a bidding war with a lot of West Coast teams. Fried is from California and the Padres, Giants, Angels, and Dodgers will all want in on the Fried sweepstakes. Maybe the Braves can finally keep a fan favorite in Atlanta.
