Atlanta Braves Star showcases A New Trick On His Instagram

Could the Atlanta Braves star try switch-hitting?

The Atlanta Braves could add another wrinkle to their expected offense in 2024.

Do you guys remember in 2021 when the Braves were beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 19-1 and Ronald Acuña Jr. wanted to hit left-handed against Wilmer Difo, who was a position player pitching at the time?

Brian Snitker shot that idea down quickly and Acuna proceeded to bat right-handed and strikeout as the Braves eventually went on to win 20-1. Most people wrote it off as a one-time thing where Acuña was just trying to even the playing field. It seems as though Acuña may actually be working on his left-handed swing.

Acuña went on his Instagram today and posted a video of him hitting from the left-handed side of the batters box. The best player in baseball is not satisfied with just being the National League MVP. Acuña had a .337 batting average, a .416 on-base percentage, and 1.012 OPS in 2023. He finished the season with 41 homers, 106 RBI, and 73 stolen bases as he became the first player in MLB history to have a 40-70 season.

Could the record-breaking star outfielder try to put his name in the record books in another fashion? There has not been a switch-hitting MVP in the MLB since Jimmy Rollins in 2007. As fun as it sounds for Acuña to add another tool to his repertoire, I do not think Brian Snitker will let it happen. He will leave the switch-hitting to Ozzie Albies. This does open the chance for a switch-hitting home run derby between Albies and Acuña during Spring Training or an off week.
