BREAKING: Max Fried to skip start against Philadelphia

The Braves lefty has a "hot spot" on his finger and Atlanta wants to avoid a blister forming and jeopardizing Max's postseason

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker plans to skip lefty Max Fried's scheduled this week against Philadelphia out of concern about a potential blister.

Snitker initially indicated there was a concern on Wednesday, telling Ben Ingram of the Atlanta Braves Radio Network that Fried had a "hot spot" developing on his finger in his last start and it was something they wanted to watch. Per reports, the Braves are NOT considering an IL stint for Fried at this time.

Fried got a no-decision against Philadelphia last week, with one run on four hits in five innings, walking two and striking out six.

Fried's struggled with blisters before, and it's entirely plausible that not pitching through the first half of the summer resulted in Max's fingers being more susceptible to that sort of friction damage.

Fried officially being skipped first came to light when the Braves released probable pitchers for this week's home series versus Philadelphia and Fried, who would normally have pitched game one, was instead replaced by Kyle Wright.

Atlanta's matchups against the Phillies are as follows:

Monday: Kyle Wright vs Zack Wheeler
Tuesday: Spencer Strider vs Cristopher Sanchez
Wednesday: Bryce Elder vs Aaron Nola

We'll update this story as more information comes out after the game, when players and coaches speak to the media.
