BREAKING: Travis d'Arnaud activated

The Braves continue to strengthen their depth as d'Arnaud returns from the concussion IL in time for the Red Sox series.

Today the Braves reinstated Travis d’Arnaud from the concussion list. They optioned Chadwick Tromp to Gwinnett to create a roster spot.

d’Arnaud has been on the concussion IL since April 8 when he was part of a violent collision at home plate against the San Diego Padres. His return to the Braves roster adds even more depth to an already very deep lineup.

Sean Murphy has been arguably the best catcher in baseball over the past month. Ben Taylor and Lindsay Crosby discussed his value behind the plate on the Braves Today podcast earlier today. His arm has proven to be a valuable weapon throwing out would be base stealers. Murphy has also performed well at the plate. In the last thirty days, since d’Arnaud went on the IL, Murphy is hitting .302/.429/.698. His OPS is 1.127, and he has nine home runs, trailing only Matt Olson, with ten, for the team lead.

Having d’Arnaud back on the Braves roster allows Murphy to have some needed days off to rest, but with the excellent defense of Murphy, we expect to see d’Arnaud filling in as the DH more than behind the plate.

Atlanta has an off day on Monday before hosting the Boston Red Sox for a short, two game series. First pitch on Tuesday is at 7:20 PM ET, and the telecast with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin is available on Bally Sports South. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on WIFN 1340 AM/103.7FM or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
