NL East Power Rankings: The Braves stay at number one, but here come the Fish
The Braves are still atop our NL East power ranks but watch out, as the Marlins are coming in hot.
The Phillies also had a good week getting their record up near .500.
This race could heat up and be fun as we get closer to the All-Star break.
Let's take a look at our NL East power rankings over sixty-five into the 2023 MLB season.
5. Washington Nationals
Record: 26-38
Current/Upcoming Series: Houston Astros
Previous Rank: 5
Early Season Recap: The Nationals had another rough week, and it doesn't seem like brighter days are ahead. The Nationals are in the middle of a rebuild and will be irrelevant until the rebuild turns around.
Who has Played Well: Joey Meneses had a good week raising his batting average two points to .307. The DH has been a bright spot for this terrible Nationals team.
4. New York Mets
Record: 31-35
Current/Upcoming Series: New York Yankees
Previous Rank: 3
Early Season Recap: The Mets had a rough week going from right at .500 to four games under. They are slowly letting the Braves and Marlins run away as the two teams truly in the NL East race.
Who has Played Well: Pete Alonso still leads the MLB with 22 bombs. The Mets are fine with the average from their first baseman as long as he goes deep often.
3. Philadelphia Phillies
Record: 32-33
Current/Upcoming Series: Arizona Diamondbacks
Previous Rank: 4
Early Season Recap: The Phillies had a great week getting themselves right near the .500 mark. They are eight games behind the Braves, looking to make a push before we hit the All-Star break.
Who has Played Well: Nick Castellanos has played great ball this season for the Phillies batting .312, giving him the sixth-best batting average in the MLB. The Phillies right fielder could be on his way to another All-Star Game appearance.
2. Miami Marlins
Record: 37-29
Current/Upcoming Series: Seattle Mariners
Previous Rank: 2
Early Season Recap: The Marlins are fuming hot, winning five of their last sixth, and are only 3.5 games behind the Braves for first in the NL East. Watch out for the fish, especially if Sandy Alcantara can get it going.
Who has Played Well: Luis Arraez's raised his MLB-leading batting average from .392 to .397 over this past week in what has been an incredible season. The Marlins second baseman is truly in the hunt to win NL MVP.
1. Atlanta Braves
Record: 40-25
Previous Rank: 1
Current/Upcoming Series: New York Mets
Early Season Recap: The Braves had another great week putting themselves 15 games over .500. They just refuse to lose series. This team is playing great baseball, and hopefully, that trend continues, and they can grow a significant lead over the Marlins in the NL East before the All-Star break.
Who has Played Well: Ronald Acuña Jr. has played well all season and is still doing so, batting .331 nearly seventy games into the season. Acuña Jr. is battling tooth and nail with Arraez for the MVP race but will definitely make the All-Star team.
