BREAKING: Braves activate Ozzie Albies from injured list; call RHP Darius Vines to Atlanta
As expected, the Atlanta Braves have activated 2B Ozzie Albies from the injured list prior to today's series opener in Colorado.
Ozzie went on the injured list on August 15th with a hamstring strain suffered the previous night against the New York Mets. He missed just over the minimum 15 days, and his return to the active roster means that Vaughn Grissom can return to AAA Gwinnett for every day playing time. Grissom was the corresponding move for Albies, but was a backup to infielder Nicky Lopez, starting only twice and getting two other pinch-hitting appearances. He went 3-10 with 2 RBIs and two strikeouts in the four games he appeared in for Atlanta.
At the same time, Atlanta called RHP Darius Vines to Atlanta, giving him the roster spot occupied by LHP Jared Shuster. Vines is 2-2 on the season with a 2.86 ERA in his five starts for AAA Gwinnett; the start to his season was delayed due to right shoulder inflammation, and he made two rehab starts in each of Complex League and High-A Rome prior to reporting to Gwinnett. A 7th round pick by Atlanta in the 2019 MLB Draft, Vines has yet to appear in a major league game. Similar to Jared Shuster's call-up last week, the plan is for him to be available out of the bullpen and, if not needed, to start game three against Colorado on Wednesday night.
