REPORT: Atlanta Braves expected to decline 2024 club option on Eddie Rosario

Atlanta's left fielder is supposedly moving on, per MLB Network's Jon Heyman

Per reports from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, the Atlanta Braves are expected to decline the $9M club option on Eddie Rosario for the 2024 season, making him a free agent.

The club option, valued at $9M, meant Atlanta would have returned all nine starters from the offense that led the league in homers and runs while putting up the best record in baseball.

Rosario, who turned 32 in September, batted .255/.305/.450 with 21 homers and 74 RBIs while playing in 142 games as the primary leftfield option for Atlanta, starting against right-handed pitching and substituting in after a lefty starter had left the game.

Rosario was originally acquired at the 2021 trade deadline from the Cleveland Guardians (then Indians) for DH Pablo Sandoval. After an electric postseason, including being named the MVP of Atlanta's NLCS victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rosario signed a two-year, $18M contract to return to Atlanta.

With Rosario reportedly moving on, a primary focus will be on finding a replacement for the left fielder. Rosario split time with Kevin Pillar, who posted a "goodbye" message on social media shortly after the season and is also not expected to return.
