Cardinals Could Land Two-Time All-Star To Add Depth After Being DFA'd By Mets

St. Louis should look to add more depth thanks to all of the club's injuries

The St. Louis Cardinals still have some question marks in the starting rotation.

St. Louis will have its top starting pitcher finally back on the mound Tuesday with Sonny Gray making his team debut in the club's matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies.

While the return of Gray certainly is a massive positive, the Cardinals still could use even more depth. St. Louis currently is 5-6 on the young season and the club's depth has been tested. Missing Gray for the beginning of the season has hurt but the club also has dealt with a handful of other injuries.

Injuries certainly are impacting every Major League Baseball club in some way, but the Cardinals have had an abnormal amount of impact injuries so far this season. Because of this, the club should look to add more veteran depth just in case more injuries pop up.

One player who could be had if the club wanted is two-time All-Star pitcher Julio Teherán. He recently was signed by the New York Mets but was designated for assignment by the club on Tuesday, according to SNY's Anthony DiComo.

"After only one start, the Mets have designated Julio Teheran for assignment," DiComo said. "Dedniel Núñez is up to help the bullpen."

If the Cardinals are interested in the veteran, they could place a waiver claim on him and if they were to land him, he immediately would be placed on the team's 40-man roster. St. Louis also could attempt a trade for him if they wanted or if he goes unclaimed on waivers, possibly sign him in free agency.

All in all, the Cardinals at least consider a possible depth move.
