Cardinals Reportedly Willing To Trade Outfielder; Could Move Be Imminent?

Could a trade be on the way for the Cardinals in the near future?

The St. Louis Cardinals already have been one of the most active teams in baseball this offseason.

St. Louis had one of the worst seasons in team history in 2023 and won just 71 games and finished in last place in the National League Central. The Cardinals widely were expected to finish atop the division standings but instead never were able to get on track.

The Cardinals already have added three new starting pitchers to help fix their issues but other moves are coming. The biggest thing to look out for shortly is the possible trade of one of the club's outfielders, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"Winter Meetings update: The Cardinals remain willing to move one of their controllable outfielders," Morosi said. "After adding three starting pitchers, they aren't necessarily committed to acquiring immediate rotation help in return."

St. Louis has been mentioned in trade talks over the last few weeks. The three most likely outfield trade chips at this point are Tyler O'Neill, Dylan Carlson, and Alec Burleson. All three of the outfielders have been mentioned in trade rumors and at this point, it wouldn't be surprising if any of them are moved. Lars Nootbaar and Jordan Walker are said to be going nowhere this offseason through trade.

The Cardinals could use another top-of-the-rotation arm but a more likely move would be for bullpen help. St. Louis had one of the worst bullpens in baseball last season and are expected to be very active looking to improve it.
