The 28-year-old had wrist surgery in October and is coming off a year in which he hit .248 with a .307 on-base percentage. He had 13 homers and 47 RBI in 137 games and also stole 27 bases.

He's heading into his sixth year in the big leagues and is known for his standout speed and versatility. In 2023 alone, Edman appeared in center field, right field, shortstop and second base. In his career, he's also appeared in left field and third base.

Lifetime, he's a .265 hitter with 53 homers and 106 stolen bases. He became a regular back in 2021 and has played in at least 137 games in each of the last three seasons. He led the National League in at-bats in 2021 with 641.

The Cardinals are coming off a season in which they finished last in the National League Central. In an en effort to rebound from that, they've signed pitchers Kyle Gibson, Lance Lynn and Sonny Gray. However, they also lost Jordan Hicks to free agency and Adam Wainwright to retirement.

The Cardinals will open up their season on March 28 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
