Chicago Cubs Get Swept By Marlins as Offense Can't Come Through

The Chicago Cubs were swept by the Miami Marlins on Sunday as they begin a losing skid.

The Chicago Cubs are on a three-game losing skid as they were swept by the Miami Marlins over the weekend.

The Cubs (14-13) had Justin Steele take the mound for the start on Sunday. He turned in a solid performance but far from the dominance he has shown to start this season. Steele pitched 6.0 innings while allowing just two earned runs, plenty of room for his offense to come through and pick him up.

Except they didn't.

Chicago's offense managed just three runs, two of them came via Cody Bellinger. The first was a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to tie the game. However, the Marlins were able to come right back and take the lead int the bottom of the inning.

Bellinger then tied the game in the sixth inning with a solo home run to right-center field, his seventh of the season.

Miami got one more back in the eighth to re-take the lead at 4-3, where the score would stay.

Keegan Thompson took the loss as he allowed the run in the eighth.

The Cubs will return to action when they travel to Washington D.C. for a four-game series against the Washington Nationals (9-17) that begins Monday at 6:05 p.m. CT.
