Another Chicago Cubs Rookie Notches First MLB Hit in Win Against Marlins Saturday

The Chicago Cubs had another rookie, Miguel Amaya, record his first MLB hit on Saturday in a win against the Miami Marlins.

For the second time in as many days, the Chicago Cubs had a rookie notch their first-ever MLB hits. The first was on Friday was when first baseman Matt Mervis made his MLB debut and recorded an RBI-single. 

Then on Saturday, catcher Miguel Amaya came in to pinch hit in the eighth inning and recorded his first hit. A single off of A.J. Puk that just squeaked through the infield. 

Amaya has been up in the Major League since Tuesday and he has put five balls into play, all which have recorded in outs. He wasn't as lucky as Mervis who got the "big one" out of the way quickly. 

But it was nonetheless just a meaningful to the 24-year-old. 

Interestingly enough, all five balls he put barrel to previous to his hit all recorded a 100-mph-plus exit velocity. 

His hit?

67.4-mph.

That's just baseball.

He should get more opportunities as Yan Gomes works his way back from a concussion. Gomes participated in baseball activities on Sunday and should be close to returning to the team.
