Chicago Cubs Shortstop Buys Former Cubs Boss' Mansion

Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and his wife, Mallory, have a new house. Turns out, Cubs fans know the former owner.

The Chicago Tribune reported on Monday that the Swansons bought a home for $3.5 million in Lakeview. The mansion formerly belonged to one of the Cubs’ former bosses, Theo Epstein.

Epstein, the former president of the Cubs, owned what is described as a six-bedroom mansion. The house is 7,000 square feet, with a brick-and-limestone outside. The house went on the market after Epstein and his wife bought a six-bedroom, 8,155 square foot house in Greenwich, Conn., last year.

Epstein now works as a consultant for Major League Baseball.

Swanson signed a seven-year, $177 million contract with the Cubs in the offseason. Mallory was already playing for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League. By signing with the Cubs, Swanson could be closer to his wife. They married one month after Swanson signed the contract.

Swanson is in the midst of a solid first season with the Cubs. Entering this week’s road trip to Colorado and Arizona, Swanson was slashing .249/.333/.421/.753 with 20 home runs and 73 RBI.

The Cubs are in the middle of the National League Wild Card chase and attempting to chase down the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central race.

Mallory Swanson, who recently threw out the first pitch before a Cubs game, played for the U.S. in the 2016 Olympics and in the 2017 World Cup. She was not able to play in this year’s World Cup after tearing her left patella tendon in a friendly against Ireland.
