Jackson Ferris, the Chicago Cubs’ second-round pick last year, is already making the Cubs look good down at Low Class-A Myrtle Beach.

Ferris is the Cubs’ No. 8 prospect per MLB.com and he was so well-regarded that the Cubs paid him a $3.005 million signing bonus last summer. He is projected as a 2026 call-up for the Cubs.

Ferris, who came out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, has made five starts in his first professional season. While he doesn’t have a decision, hitters have had a hard time dealing with the left-hander.

His last start, which was against the Salem Red Sox on Saturday, saw Ferris go three innings for the fourth time this season. He threw hitless and scoreless baseball, walking three and striking out one.

The upside-down walk-to-strikeout ratio has been an anomaly so far. In five games he’s struck out 17 and walked just six. The one strikeout against Salem was a season-low.

In 14 innings he’s allowed five hits and one earned run.

Ferris hasn’t given up a run in his last three starts. He gave up his one run this season in a start on May 12 against Lynchburg. Saturday’s game was the second time he’s thrown three innings of no-hit baseball this season.
