Chicago Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks threw a simulated game Monday in Arizona.

Hendricks, the lone remaining player from the 2016 World Series title team, threw 36 pitches over two innings and said he felt “great.”

Cubs manager David Ross said that the right-hander will need to ramp up to three innings before heading off for a rehab start.

On April 12, Hendricks threw live batting practice for two innings and on April 15, he tossed 30 pitches in a bullpen session.

Hendricks is trying to return from a capsular tear in his right shoulder and he has been working with the coaches to change his arm delivery in order to stay off the injured list.

Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said on April 11 that Hendricks is "not far off" from a Minor League rehab assignment.

The good news for the Cubs is that the team is off to a strong start. While there’s urgency to get Hendricks back, they also can be somewhat patient.

When Hendricks does return, it’s imperative that he’s 100 percent healthy.

The team told Marquee Sports that Hendricks is on a "five-day plan" that features a bullpen on Thursday and then three innings on April 22.

Additionally, Codi Heur will throw live BP on Thursday.
